Large Sculpted Ceramic Vase, Handmade Blue Waterfall Drip Glaze Pottery, 21cm Mountain Statement Vessel
VAT included
A large hand-sculpted ceramic vase carved as a mountain landscape, with a jagged peaked rim and a reactive glaze that runs down the ridges in bright blue rivulets — like meltwater over rock. One of a kind, hand-built without moulds in my home studio in Katwijk aan Zee, Netherlands.
About this piece
The whole vessel is carved into overlapping ridgelines, and the rim is cut into peaks rather than finished flat — one of them rising higher than the rest, like a summit. It is meant to be turned; there is no single front.
The glaze is what makes it. It pools amber and rust along every carved edge, then breaks into cobalt and turquoise where it runs down into the hollows, over a mottled sage-grey body. That running is real: during the firing the glaze melts and travels, and it decides for itself where to stop. I can steer it. I cannot repeat it.
Size & materials
Height: 21 cm
Width: 14 cm
Stoneware clay, high-fired reactive glaze
Hand-built and hand-carved, no moulds · signed on the underside
Watertight, glazed inside
How to use it
A statement flower vase for dried grasses, pampas, eucalyptus or a generous loose bunch — the wide 14 cm body carries a big arrangement without tipping. Just as strong empty, as a sculptural object on a mantelpiece, a console table, a windowsill or a wide bookshelf. Turn it a quarter and it is a different piece.
For fresh flowers I recommend a glass or jar inside, to keep the glaze at its best.
Care
Hand wash only. Not dishwasher or microwave safe. Wipe the carved surface with a soft brush.
Made by hand, start to finish
Roughly 6 hours of building and carving, then 48 hours in the kiln across two firings. No production line here — just me, the clay, and a kiln that has the final word.
