Large Sculpted Mountain Vase, Handmade Sunset Landscape Ceramic, 24cm Statement Flower Vase, Housewarming Gift

A large sculpted ceramic vase with a hand-carved sunset mountain landscape wrapping the whole piece — peaks, a low sun and layered hills in coral, cream, sage and sea green. One of a kind, hand-built without moulds in my home studio in Katwijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

About this piece

The rim is deliberately uneven, cut like a mountain ridge, and glazed in a soft raspberry pink that continues all the way down the inside. Below it the landscape unfolds in relief: an ochre cliff face, a burnt-orange sun sinking into aqua water, sage green foothills and a lavender-grey base. Every ridge is pressed and carved by hand, so the glaze pools thicker in the valleys and breaks lighter over the peaks — that is what gives the piece its depth.

Because it is built by hand and fired with reactive glazes, no second piece will ever look the same. This one is the only one.

How to use it

Beautiful as a statement flower vase for dried grasses, pampas, eucalyptus or a loose seasonal bunch. Just as good empty, as a sculptural object on a mantelpiece, a bookshelf, a console table or a dining table centrepiece. The interior is glazed, but for fresh flowers I recommend a small glass or jar inside to keep the glaze at its best.

Hand wash only. Not dishwasher or microwave safe.

Made by hand, start to finish

Around 5 hours of shaping and carving, then 48 hours in the kiln across two firings. I make everything myself — there is no production line here, just me and the clay.
